Family Violence

We know that family violence affects all communities – and that includes our Victorian Jewish community.

Jewish Care supports community members from all walks of life who are affected by family violence, irrespective of age, gender, ability, culture, religious observance, sexual orientation or gender identity.

Each service response is developed to meet the particular needs of the individual or family affected by violence. We can provide:

  • Multi-lingual telephone support
  • Information and education about family violence
  • Risk assessment
  • Safety planning
  • Ongoing case management
  • Housing support
  • Financial counselling
  • Parenting support, including assistance to meet children’s support and safety needs
  • Pro-bono legal advice
  • Court support (both secular and religious)
  • Assistance to access flexible support packages
  • Links to counselling, group programs, financial and material aid, and other related services.

In every aspect of service delivery, we focus on prioritising the victim-survivor’s sense of safety, and supporting and respecting their agency and decision-making. Our services are confidential and culturally safe, delivered by experienced social workers from across the Jewish community. If preferred, there is always an opportunity to speak to a family violence worker who is not from the community.

In addition to the above supports for victim-survivors of family violence we also provide support and active referral for people who use violence, including links to local Men’s Behaviour Change programs.

Our family violence service is highly professionalised. We are aligned to the state-wide MARAM (Multi Agency Risk Assessment and Management) framework, and a member agency of the Bayside Peninsula Integrated Family Violence partnership. In addition to our direct services, Jewish Care is also a leading provider of family violence primary prevention and community education.

If you are experiencing family violence, feeling unsafe, or just want to talk about your relationship – please reach out. Contact the Front Door on 8517 5999.
