A place to call home
Jewish Care believes that it is a basic human right for every person to have a safe, affordable and secure place to call home. Jewish Care's Tenancy and Property Worker advocates for people in need of accommodation in the Victorian Jewish community, and can assist individuals and families experiencing housing difficulties to identify and access affordable accommodation alternatives.
We can provide:
- timely information and advice about housing options from within the private, community and public housing markets
- access to available emergency housing and short-term and/or permanent accommodation for adults, families and seniors from within Jewish Care housing stock or through a partner agency
- assistance with the lodging of documents and liaison with government departments and housing organisation
- facilitation or referrals to other program areas
We understand the cultural, religious and special needs of the Victorian Jewish community (including those of Holocaust survivors), and collaborate with other housing providers to increase their understanding of the needs of Jewish tenants.
For those with complex needs, housing alone is often insufficient. Our Housing program works in collaboration with the Service Coordination team to ensure that those with multiple and complex needs are able to sustain their tenancy and manage a range of complex issues. Integration with other programs including Financial Support Services, The Employment Centre and In-home Services also occurs as needed.
Our Housing Support service is free, while rent fees are calculated on a social housing model.
