Bill Appleby Awarded Aged Care CEO of the Year

26 March 2018

Jewish Care Victoria congratulates CEO Bill Appleby on winning the 2018 Aged Care CEO of the Year award at the recent Inaugural Australian Health Care Week Excellence Awards, held at the International Convention Centre, Sydney.

The Australian Health Care Week Excellence Awards were introduced to honour and recognise the efforts of facilities, teams and individuals making the greatest contribution to the wellbeing of people receiving care and support in hospitals and aged care residences across Australia. Applications were judged by an expert panel of leading practitioners and exemplary members of the Australasian healthcare community.

The transformative impact Bill's leadership has had on the services and supports offered by Jewish Care Victoria, now in its 170th year, was the basis of Bill receiving this prestigious award.

Now in his 7th year as CEO, Bill has successfully led the organisation by delivering on several key strategic and operational goals that have enhanced and informed the services and supports we provide to the Victorian Jewish community and the future of Jewish Care Victoria, some of which include:

  • Launching the visionary and unprecedented $200 million Capital Campaign, Growing. For Our Community., a series of six new developments, including the Coppel & Piekarski Family Disability Respite Centre which opened in 2016.
  • Delivering substantial and continued growth in In-Home Services.
  • Leading the development of the revised strategic plan, Towards 2020, and undertaking a robust review of Jewish Care Victoria's mission, vision and values.

Upon receiving this award, Bill said, "It is an absolute privilege to lead this critically important organisation. It is wonderful to see our transformative work being recognised through this industry award. Ultimately, this is a team award. We need everyone on the same page so that together, we can build and support a healthy, resilient and inclusive Jewish community."

"Bill is highly skilled, intelligent and passionate leader with an extensive knowledge of the industry," said Mike Debinski, President of Jewish Care Victoria. "He inspires those around him to deliver high quality, person centred care with a commitment to excellent customer service."

Outside his role as Jewish Care CEO, Bill is active in the Healthcare community and serves as Board Member for East Timor Hearts Fund, is a Victorian Divisional Councilor for Aged and Community Services Australia and a member of the Consumer Reference Group for Calvary Health Care Bethlehem. Bill is also a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

We would like to congratulate Bill on this well-deserved award and thank him for his tireless efforts and passion to improve the quality of services offered to the Victorian Jewish community by Jewish Care Victoria.
