Jewish Care Victoria continues to work closely with the Southeast Public Health Unit, Alfred MATS and the Commonwealth Department of Health in relation to the COVID outbreak at Gary Smorgon House.
Currently, there are no changes to visitor restrictions. Visitation is suspended, saved for exceptional circumstances only. Elders are continuing to isolate in their rooms and being supported by fully vaccinated staff in full PPE.
Jewish Care are pleased to report that to date, the 102 elders that have been tested have all received negative results back today.
Overall, more than 150 test results have come back to date from the weekend testing and there are no further positive cases.
Gary Smorgon House elders and staff will undergo further PCR testing on the 21st of December and the 23rd of December, which will be run by Melbourne Pathology.
Pleasingly, we can report that no elders or staff are showing any signs or symptoms.
At this time, the Southeast Public Health Unit has advised that if there are no further positive cases in the coming days that the outbreak is likely to end on the night of the 25th of December 2021.
Jewish Care will continue to offer supports to all elders, taking every precaution to ensure staff and elder wellbeing.
