Sarah Singer

Breast Cancer Survivor

Sarah Singer was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2002 at the age of 32, just as she was beginning life as a new mum to her 16-month-old daughter, Mia.

Her treatment involved surgeries, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Two years after completing treatment, her consultant informed her about the discovery of the BRCA gene and recommended genetic testing. The results revealed that Sarah was a carrier of the BRCA1 gene. Armed with this knowledge, she took control of her health and chose to undergo preventative surgeries—one of which took place shortly after the birth of her second ‘miracle’ daughter, Lila.

This life-changing experience gave Sarah a ‘live for the day’ mindset, and in 2008, she and her family relocated from London to Melbourne.

Sarah works as a Philanthropic Relations Manager at the Baker Institute. She also runs dressyu Melbourne, her personal styling business (one of the services she offers is complimentary consultations to women going through breast cancer.) She also volunteers for the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF), sharing her story through media appearances and speaking at fundraising events.

Rachel Ben Atar

Breast Cancer Warrior

Rachel Ben Atar is a proud mum of two young children, wife to Emile, and a Jewish Studies teacher at The King David School. In October 2023, just weeks after the tragic events of October 7th, Rachel received the life-changing news that she had stage 3 breast cancer.

Her 12-month treatment plan included 16 rounds of chemotherapy, surgery, radiotherapy, and immunotherapy. The journey was overwhelming, impacting her health, family life, and daily routines. With courage and resilience, Rachel faced each step of treatment while balancing her role as a mother, wife, and teacher.

Through immense support from her family, friends, and community, Rachel found the strength to navigate the toughest days. Her story is one of positivity, courage, resilience, and hope, and today she shares it to inspire others facing life’s unexpected challenges.
