Working together - Temple Beth Israel supporting Elders and Families at Jewish Care

Jewish Care is delighted to announce that Temple Beth Israel (TBI) will be providing pastoral, cultural and religious support at Jewish Care’s Residential Home Carnegie.

“The agreement solidifies a longstanding collaborative relationship with TBI ensuring Jewish Care continues to meet the diverse needs of our community; particularly at our Residential Home Carnegie where our community is expanding”, said Bill Appleby, Chief Executive Officer.

Pastoral support is provided one on one enabling TBI clergy and staff to form important relationships with our elders and families. Cultural activities include Jewish music, current affairs discussion groups, adult education, Jewish arts & crafts, challah making and preparing for oneg Shabbat and concerts, including classics from the Jewish and Israeli repertoire.

TBI will also develop a raft of education and experiential opportunities designed to connect elders and staff with the surrounding Jewish community to establish the Home as the base of an expanding Jewish communal precinct.

In addition, TBI’s clergy will provide religious services including Shabbat candle lighting and Shabbat services alternating with existing traditional orthodox services.

Gersh Lazarow, Senior Rabbi of Temple Beth Israel, said "We are so pleased that this program of pastoral and communal engagement, which has been conceived and led by our Cantor Michel Laloum, has been so well received by the elders in Carnegie. We are confident that genuine partnerships such as this are the key to securing both a sustainable and dynamic future for our communities."
