What wonderful news we have to share…the final test result for Elders at Gary Smorgon House (GSH) has returned and it is NEGATIVE!
We are thrilled that the Public Health Unit (DHHS) has advised today that the lockdown may now be lifted.
DHHS have advised that Gary Smorgon House will now be under ‘active surveillance’ for 14 days which amongst other thing means Elders are no longer required to isolate in their rooms and may once again use the common areas at GSH.
Notwithstanding DHHS guidelines, to ensure the safety of all our Elders and staff, Jewish Care will continue to restrict all visitors except for palliative visits. Jewish Care will remain vigilant for symptoms of COVID-19 and will continue our daily temperature testing of each Elder. Adherence to infection control protocols remains paramount and staff will continue to wear masks, strictly observe hygiene protocols and be screened prior to entering GSH.
"I would like to take the opportunity to thank our Elders and families at Gary Smorgon House for your patience, understanding and strength during this past week. We know it has been an extraordinary time for you all and are so thankful that we can now return to normal and you can again enjoy your home as it is meant to be enjoyed," said CEO Bill Appleby.
"We also want to take this opportunity to say a huge and sincere thankyou to our tirelessly committed staff. Today is Aged Care Employee Day and never more so have they deserved to be thanked. From the bottom of our hearts at Jewish Care, we thank you, and our Elders and families for remaining calm and considerate during this anxious time," continued Appleby.
This week’s Parsha could not be more fitting:
“…And Hashem your G-d will take away all sickness from your midst”.
