Alan has extensive executive and senior leadership experience in the health, disability and aged care sectors and is an Adjunct Professor of Australian Catholic University.
Alan joined Jewish Care Victoria as Chief Executive in January 2022. He has held a range of senior leadership positions at the executive and chief executive level for almost 20 years, most recently working as an independent consultant in health and aged care. In his consultant capacity, Alan co-conducted a number of independent reviews into COVID-19 outbreaks for the Commonwealth Department of Health and also worked extensively on matters related to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety. He is currently a Board Director of the Royal Women’s Hospital, Chair of its Board Quality & Safety Committee and a member of the Consultative Council on Obstetric and Paediatric Mortality and Morbidity.
Alan originally trained as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse and a Registered General Nurse in the UK and holds a Graduate Diploma in Health Services Management and Master of Business in Health Administration. He is a Fellow and Certified Health Executive of the Australasian College of Health Service Management, a Fellow of the Institute of Managers and Leaders and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
His professional interests are in leadership, operational excellence, governance, care quality and safety and the consumer experience.
