Sir Moses sculpture at home in Melbourne

A sculpture of philanthropist Sir Moses Montefiore, created for Britain’s Kent International Airport 14 years ago, is now taking pride of place in the foyer of its Australian namesake, Jewish Care’s Montefiore Homes Community Residence.

The sculpture, in bronze, pewter and silver and gold plate by Israeli artist Frank Meisler, was commissioned by British businessman and philanthropist Sir Clive Bourne when he purchased the airport in 1993.

When Sir Clive sold the airport a few years ago due to ill health, he gave the sculpture to long-time Melbourne friend Harry Chojna who has loaned it to Jewish Care for the benefit of the entire Jewish community.
