Rabbi Yoseph Nerenberg
Manager of Jewish Life Services, Minister - Gary Smorgon House
The third eldest in a family of 10 children, Rabbi Nerenberg grew up in Detroit, Michigan, USA, and studied in High School and Rabbinical College in New York, culminating with his Rabbinical Ordination in 2004. Rabbi Nerenberg moved to Australia in 2006 after marrying his Australian wife, Rochel, and currently has four children.
Rabbi Nerenberg began working for Jewish Care in October 2007, originally as assistant Rabbi and Kashrut Supervisor in Montefiore Homes.
He then became Rabbi of Gary Smorgon House upon its opening in June 2009. He conducts daily Kashrut inspections, pastoral visits, weekly Shiurim (lectures) on the Torah portion or upcoming Holiday, leads weekly Shabbat and Holiday services, and provides rabbinical support to residents, staff members, family members, and visitors of Gary Smorgon House. He particularly enjoys chatting to residents, and encourages residents to speak to each other and share their remarkable tales.
In addition to his role at Gary Smorgon House, Rabbi Nerenberg is also rabbi for Jewish Care's Healthy Ageing Program.
Rabbi Yisroel Kohn
Minister- Montefiore Community Residence, Smorgon Nursing Home, Independent Living Units and Mental Health Program
Rabbi Kohn was born in Brooklyn, New York, where he spent most of his educational years. He then spent one year in Israel and one year as an Exchange student in Sydney. Rabbi Kohn returned to New York where he studied in the Central Lubavitcher Yeshivah where he received his Smicha (Rabbinic ordination). Rabbi Kohn is married to Gittle and they have four children.
Rabbi Kohn is the resident Rabbi of Montefiore Communty Residence and Smorgon Nursing Home (Jewish Care's St Kilda Road Facilities). His daily roles include pastoral care, kosher supervision, administering Synagogue services and Festival related programs. Rabbi Kohn enjoys interacting with the residents and appreciates the valuable lessons he receives from them.
Rabbi Schneier Lange
Minister- Mark and Dina Munzer Community Residence, Disability Services and Community Engagement Program
Born in South Africa, Rabbi Lange has studied in many countries including Israel and America. He finished his Rabbinical studies in Sydney and his advanced Rabbinical studies in Melbourne. Rabbi Lange is known for his warm, enthusiastic and vibrant character and is a welcome addition to Jewish Care and to the residents, clients and their families.
Rabbi Lange's highlight of his week is bringing his wife, daughter and son to Munzer on Shabbos and spending some valuable time with the Munzer family.
In addition to his role at Munzer, Rabbi Lange is also Rabbi for Community Engagement and Disability Support Service events.
