Volunteering
Volunteering is a vital part of Jewish Care and volunteers contribute enormously, providing a vast number of skills and experience. They support staff throughout the organisation as board members, on committees of management and in fundraising. They also support our clients by:
- assisting with the transportation and care of the elderly and the disabled on outings
- providing social support to adolescents
- tutoring English to migrants
- visiting and supporting people with a psychiatric disability
- visiting aged people living independently or in a residential facility
- reading the Jewish News for audio recordings for the Royal Victorian Institute for the Blind
- coordinating and supporting community-based recreation programs
The Volunteer Coordinator also works closely with the Jewish day schools to develop a greater awareness of social responsibility in the young members of our community.
While we currently have over 300 active adult volunteers (ranging in age from 18 to 85 and speaking a multitude of languages), we still need more. All volunteers are given training before they begin. If you would like to become a volunteer at Jewish Care, please call 8517 5603 or contact us.
