President's
Message
This year, 5000 people in crisis will contact Jewish Care.
5000 people - our neighbours, our friends, family members, work colleagues. The young, the elderly, the unemployed, the family of a person with a disability, new business owners, families starting out, children, parents, siblings...
Any one of us could be hit by crisis.
This is why Jewish Care was established over 160 years ago: because as a community, we feel responsible for one another - because as a community, we can help.
Jewish Care is the custodian of our communal obligation to care for the Jewish community of Victoria. We are committed to ensuring that people in need in our community receive the support they need to meet the challenges they face. Thanks to community support, we have been able to remain true to this commitment.
By caring for clients and their families, we touch the lives of more than 30,000 people in our community every year.
One out of every two people in our community is touched or affected by Jewish Care in some way:
- Perhaps it is through the support we provide which enables more than 3,500 older people to continue to live independently in their own home
- Perhaps a relative is one of the 427 residents living in our facilities or one of the 500 people who attend our Active Living Centre on a weekly basis
- We support 422 families with children with disabilities.
- We help over 200 jobseekers and 165 young people engaged in youth development and wellbeing programs
- Every month we assist 80 people with emergency housing and 90 with counselling support.
- Every year, we support 150 people with emergency financial aid, 66 people with free-interest loans and dozens to gain financial skills and save for their children's education.
- We receive approximately 5000 crisis calls a year on issues ranging from youth issues, counselling, aged care needs, emergency housing, domestic violence, mental health issues, poverty and violence.
There is no Jewish organisation which impacts on our community as significantly as Jewish Care - and yet there is also so much more that we could do.
The needs of our community are growing and expectations are changing. And what was good enough yesterday, is not good enough today.
Please donate now to our 2010 Annual Appeal.
Yours sincerely,
Bruce Rosengarten
